Hey Everybody - Guess What - I'm Blogging Now!

Hi there gang. Yes, Theresa and Cathy have dragged me into the technology age here during my trip to Houston. I've actually blogged about what happened each and every day since I've been here. I've even sent a text message on Theresa's phone, did a video chat with Kim and learned how to get the text messages on my cell phone (and the fact that it costs me .15 to send each message!). Today is my last full day so I probably won't blog tomorrow, but I hope you all check out my blog -and make some comments to so I can go back and read them.

Check it out here.

My 'moment'...

I've been wondering when the moment would come when it would finally 'hit me'.

I mean, I know what's going on. We've been shopping and packing for days now. The boxes are lined up against the bedroom wall and have been steadily filling up. One for the bathroom, one with kitchen items and the list goes on. Justin made the comment the other day that I was holding up pretty well. It took a moment for me to realize what he was talking about.

Actually, I had thought the same thing. I was holding up pretty nicely. I've been very occupied preparing for the move, making sure he will have everything that he needs. Making sure his room will have gentle reminders of home. I am amazed at how organized he is. How ready he is to be on his own. He knows just what he wants and just what he doesn't want. Even knows what color towels, linens and dishes he wants. This is good.

Then from out of nowhere it hit me.

Sunday morning we are walking out of Mass and we stop to talk with Fr. Tift who has kept up with the lives of Justin and Jason since they were wee ones. He asks Justin when he will be leaving for school and pulls him off to the side for a Blessing. That was it. I can't hear all the words Fr. Tom is saying but it's probably all the better. I catch the part as we pray for his safety until he comes home for his first vacation. Funny how tears coming from your eyes could affect your ears ability to hear.

Guess it's just one of those things I can't explain. Thank you Fr. Tift.

Okay gang - here's the next challenge...

Mob Blog. Yes that's it - your next challenge. And just so you know, adults, that stands for mobile blogging. You can basically set up your phone to post to the blog of your choice - the main one - or your personal one. You can go to blogger.com to get all the instructions but there are a number of steps involved so read up and give it a shot. You actually need to do it twice - depending on how your phone operates - one for uploading pics and one for simple text messages. I've done it for both ways on my phone - and so far we've got Michael able to upload messages but since he's on Windows not Palm it's not liking his picture sending so that might not work. Anyway keep us all posted on how the mob blog goes ... and stay tuned - Michael heads out tomorrow for Sturgis so hopefully if he can get a signal somewhere up there in the Black Hills, he'll send a note. He's been in contact with my friend Joe from Ohio so hopefully they can hook up. Well off to bed soon so they can roll out early. See ya'll.

Better sit down, ya'll ...

No, I'm not pregnant, but I may be a changed woman. I did something yesterday that I've never done in years or maybe even my entire life. Actually, I was going to tell you, but maybe I'll let you all guess, via commenting to this post. There may even be a prize for the correct answer. Let's see what you come up with. Should be interesting. And no the answer is not cook dinner for Michael. I've done that at least 3 times.

I'm lovin' it.

I know it sounds like McDonald's that I'm talking about, but that's not the case.

I would have never imagined how much of a difference a tiny, little black and silver gizmo could make in ones life.

I spent much of the day going through pages of notebooks that housed all sorts of scribbles of information that should have been dealt with weeks if not months ago but darned it anyway, I couldn't find the little note that I left myself because it was at the bottom of my black work bag. Never again. I now have a very healthy To Do List that I must tend to.

It has been years since I listened to music blasting through a headphone but that is exactly what I did today. It was John Cougar to boot. Actually, one of the songs I used to really 'turn up' on my record player that I kept in my 'hi-fi' closet at the apartment in Streetsboro. Wow, that was cool. Now, I need to find MP3's of all my favorite artists that I haven't listened to in ages and just gave all their cassettes away thinking I'll never get into music like I used to back then. Wrong.

Did I mention that having all of my appointments with me at anytime is a wonderful feature as well. This might be the last year for the huge datebook that constantly graces our kitchen table reminding us of who needs to be where and when. Norman never checked it anyway and the kids can just sync with my ical.

Yes, I can also check my e-mail and check the weather or how my stock is doing at any given moment as well. It can wake me up in the morning, remind me of a 2 o'clock appointment. And now when I write myself a shopping list that we need more peanut butter and milk, I will actually have that shopping list with me when I am at the store and not taped to the fridge at home because I stopped on the way home from work and had forgotten to take the list off the fridge in the morning before I left for work. See where I'm going with this?

I'm sure you figured it out by now but I really like my new phone.

Thanks Justin and Jason, I'm not sure I would have done it on my own.

Sun - just for one day

So - the sun was out today. I actually passed on an intense trip on the Stairmaster just to walk (briskly) outside so I could actually look at - or near - the sun. Feel the sun. See my shadow. Not be chased by mosquitos. It was nice. If I wasn't so busy, I'd have worked from home. (wink wink) I did allow myself to go home for lunch and eat outside on the deck - even linger for 5 minutes to look at the pretty clouds. Clouds - wait a minute - no - go away. Sure enough I drove home (7:55) and it looked like rain. Well, we enjoyed our hours of sun. Weather forecase for the next week is between 40-60% chance of rain. Yeah. Bring your rain gear, guys.

From Rain to Mosquitos and Back to Rain

So we're back to where we started from here in Houston. After this low pressure system sat over us for like a month or more and it rained every day in a row forever, it finally moved on and gave us a few days of a break. Granted we never had a totally blue sky just some nice puffy white, non-rain clouds with a touch of blue and even the sun for a moment or two. Then came the mosquitos. Even when I was walking at a pretty good clip at my Island Retreat they managed to land on me and start feasting. Must have forgotten to eat my garlic laden hummus the day before! And so now we are back to rain - at least 50% as long as the forecast goes. Didn't stop me this morning - I went for a walk anyway. Even with my rain jacket I got totally soaked but it was fun. It wasn't totally pouring cats and dogs but it was certainly more than a drizzle. Well that's about all that is new here. We're just working like crazy (not on the house yet though!) and Michael has caught Sturgis fever again this year thanks to his brother! They are going together so Michael is getting into vacation mode already! This will likely be my Sunday night email so I hope you all have tuned in!

You all have been invited to contribute ...

Hi there everyone. Justin brought up a good point when he first checked out this blog deal. He commented that it would be good for everyone to be able to contribute to the 'home page' of The Komyanek Family blog - instead of just their own particular blog page. So ... instead of waiting another 3 years for this to happen, I took care of it right away. (Ok the truth is - I'm still a bit in vacation mode. Michael and I took some 'mental health' time early this week and then yesterday of course we were off - and today I'd like to be off!) So my assistant is hard at work next to me - and I'm fooling with my family blog and hoping no clients have wandered upon this yet!

So you all have been invited to contribute - but the email has been sent to your 'komyanek family' email address (which is what I needed to create to create a Google account for you - which was needed to create the Blogger account ...) so I will send you all instructions on how to access this email - and I'll send that to your regular email account.

Komyanek family adults - I know I have confused you here. Just ask the nearest Komyanek family kid for help! (Luckily they are all together right now!)

Happy blogging.

Baseball and the 4th of July

Hi all - just a quick note to try to get in the habit of blogging regularly. Here is a self portrait of the two of us watching the Astros lose another one! And yes we forgot to put our heads down so you can see that Michael is wearing a White Sox cap and I'm with my Indians one!
Despite the rain we had a good day. Didn't take the chance of sitting out all day waiting for fireworks, but we had a good day anyway. Well - back to work. Hope you are all having fun in Ohio.
(And no, the post above this one wasn't really created by Mom - I just tried the process with her email and login to be sure it worked. Ha. See y'all.)
