A Christmas to Remember

Christmas 2007 was an awesome one. Although it was sad to not travel to Cleveland and see family there, it was also nice to be with family here. I'll be doing a longer recap soon, just wanted to show off a favorite picture thus far ... of course it's of my honey and I.

Toy Run - First Ride in the Rain

Well, today was the 28th annual Toy Run - Michael and I and David ... and Skooter all took part. Michael has probably done this ride for more than 15 years - it was David's first and my fourth (I think). Every year about this time, a bunch of bikers (sometimes) a 1000 or even 2000 ride up and deliver toys to the Boys and Girls Country. It's pretty cool - the cops block off the entire freeway so we can ride undisturbed.

This year was great compared to last year - on the way there at least. Last year it was like in the 30s and I needed to soak in a hot bath when I got home - but that didn't even warm me up. Well, this year it was T-shirt weather for Michael and the hard core bikers - which for me meant two long sleeve shirts! On the way back however, we ran into some rain. In all my years riding with Michael - this is the first time we've hit rain. It stings a bit - especially when going fast on the freeway. Of course - the rain we were in was really nothing - just a mist according to Michael. You can't really see it from this picture, but the bottom part of my legs, plus my arms are soaked - and of course pretty much all of Michael.

Anyway, it was fun - a good day. Good weekend. Always good not to work 24/7. Maybe there's hope for me yet.

Whoa!!!

As in Stop! Yeah, that was a word I used a little today. What fun. After talking about it for more than 3 years (I don't even want to think about the real number), Theresa and I actually rode the horses together. For the most part I rode Izzy (sp?) and she rode Zoli, but I tried Zoli for a bit at the end. We had fun and I'm so glad I did it. Did I have time to do it? No. Am I caught up at work? No. Should I have done it? Absolutely yes. See I'm starting early on my New Year's Resolutions - which hopefully will become my New Ways of Life - and the main two are to stop procrastinating and to stop letting work control my life. So this was just what the doctor ordered. I met her early as she was talking Kellie to the Ag barn, so as a bonus I got to see Sam the Lamb. We then went to Jane's to get Zoli and took him to the Cimaron where Kellie's horse is. I walked (tried to) him in the round pen for a bit - totally enclosed - good for me. I even trotted for a bit. Then we ventured into the arena and did some big circles. This was fun and I getting more relaxed until I accidentally squeezed my legs together and Izzy shot off. Now in my mind I would say he gallopped off like crazy half way down the arena - that's what it felt like to baby me. However Theresa happened to be filming at the moment and upon 'instant replay' I see that it was a possible trot that Izzy broke into and it lasted for like 2 or 3 paces. Ha. Anyway it was really fun. I probably would have trotted there but then another guy came in and the arena got a lot smaller. Just like me and Justin and Jason riding bikes in Ashley Oaks the last time - I need lots of space around me. We also walked a bit in the open area of the property. After we got the horses back and showered (us not the horses) we celebrated our accomplishment with lunch at Chipolte. (Yes, then we had to go to work.) So now we just need to do it again before another 3 years pass by!

Our 2nd Anniversary

Hi gang. I've posted a recap of our anniversary trip to San Franciso, but I posted to the main Cathy and Michael blog. I'll probably use that for major things - like anniversaries and other major news - and this blog here for day to day stuff.

So, if you'd like to read about our trip, go to our main blog.

Withdrawal symptoms setting in already

What do you mean there is no Tribe game on tonight? Well, okay - the more rest for C.C. the better, I guess. What am I going to do tonight? I mean - what am I going to listen to/watch while I'm working from home all night? No crack of the bat, no roaring crowds, no steady drum beat ... I might not make it. More than 26 hours until the next game. Ok, I can do this. I can make it. Wish me luck.

Michael's Favorite Day

Well, yesterday was Michael's favorite day of the year ... no, not Christmas or even his birthday, but the King's Feast at the Texas Renaissance Festival. And yes, the operative word here is Feast. It begins with assorted fruits, cheeses and bread, then a large salad, then some type of soup or bisque, then roasted and seasoned potatoes and assorted vegetables, then many, many types of food - sausage, chicken, pork loin or pork ribs, prime rib. And this is all you can eat of everything. Plus all the beer and wine you can drink. Oh, and this year they also had turkey legs - absolutely huge. It look up like half of his plate (which was already full with prime rib and everything else). Yikes. Luckily we have like 2 hours to eat all this - and we are entertained durig the whole thing so it was fun as always.

It was kind of funny when we walked in - within 10 minutes or so we were rounded up for a polka dancing competition. Kind of funny - all those summers at Nativity's picnics did not pay off - I could not get the hang - and well of course Michael put his own spin on it - it was half polka and half karate and I was nearly sea-sick from all the round and round motion. The judge said he wanted to award us the prize based on 'enthusiasm' alone, but I'm sure our lack of technique had something to do with it!

Then the guy who ran the contest said something to really make Michael smile - they had a Bratwurst eating contest at 2:30. Normally he would have been all over that, but since King's Feast was from 11 - 1, poor Michael was not quite ready. (Thank goodness!)

So we went around and saw various acts and looked in shops and the usual stuff. I got a sun, moon and star earring/ring set and we got some incense as usual. The day went fast and ended with fireworks and following Tartanic (perhaps my favorite act/group of the event - bagpipes and drums and dancing) out to the parking lot.

(Go Tribe - we can win it all right now!)

Finally - the old lady did it!

Well after getting back in practice ever since the boys were here, I've finally achieved my first little baby step goal of being a runner again. Today I ran more than 3 miles. At one time - without stopping. Ok, it was probably like an inch more than 3 miles, but hey that counts. Don't even ask me how long it took because that's another story. I'm far off my 'blistering' 9:34 mn ml from when I trained the boys at the high school track years and years ago (remember ... the birth place of the 'hobo-mobile'). Anyway, that's my news and I'm proud of it. Justin, I really don't need to know your time on the mile just yet. Let me be happy for a day or so! I'm committed to running the 5K of our Houston marathon in January. And unlike my past goal of running the half marathon like 5 years ago, this one will really happen. Yep, I can do it. Just checked results from last year and the slowest mile was 27.55. I think I can beat that! Wish me luck.

We've got one more show done, but I haven't seen the final cut of it yet. I'll post another link when I get it.
